HDR+Photomatic
Posted By: Nico, 07-20-2008, 01:52 AM

Image processed with CS3 HDR then tone mapped with Photomatix plugin. Three Raw images -2.0.+2 were used. Normal exposure was 20sec. f8 iso 200 K200d 17-28 fisheye zoom.

What do you think? Too much tone mapping?

The first photo looks computer generated, kind of kool. Made up for a movie or something.

Night shots often require tone mapping to reveal enough detail. However, I would desaturate the colors to remove some of the artificiallity.

I like the hyper-reality look achieved here. The architectural style suits it.

I like the original better. Even though I am not against HDR in theory. But there is far more contrast in the original, the colours look better, and the sky is not full of noise.

I am a fan of #1 - looks animated for sure - but I agree the subject matter suits the style.

Thank you all for your c & c. Do you feel that image such as this one (heavy PP) is out of place in this forum?

I suspect playing around with some parameters would give somewhat better results.
IIRC "light smoothing" or "microcontrast" should be the things to experiment with. At the moment the halos are a bit too strong IMHO.

Photomatix can combine and tone map RAW files, so there's no need to use CS3.

In any case, the first image looks like CGI.

I certainly don't. The computer is the digital darkroom and darkroom technique and skills has always been a strong part of photography.
