Show me some M 50/1.7 and 1.4 shots!
Posted By: Alvin, 02-13-2007, 10:29 AM

After I lost an e-bay bid for a M 28/2.8 last night, I decided to look local and may have found an old M 50/1.7. The same store has a M 55/2 in the same condition as the lens I'm borrowing and I like the lens, but I'd like to see some shots from a 50mm to see how much difference there may be.

Post up your shots and if you have a 1.4 put it up here too!

Thanks!

Thanks to all so far.

Ken - I noticed this shot while browsing through. What aperture was it taken at? Corea harbor839 photo - Ken Regier photos at pbase.com

Phazed - 1.4 at 1.7, eh? Really nice bokeh. Something I didn't initially consider until now.

Luka, I just noticed you posted. I'm browsing through

Alvin,
That was with the M50 f1.4. I'm almost positive that was at f1.4.

Regards,
I know this question should have been posted in the lens discussion. Other than the max aperture, are there any other differences between the 1.7 and 1.4? Why am I noticing bokeh in the 1.4 shots, and not the 1.7?

The 1.7 has great bokeh. The 1.7 photos you are looking at were not shot wide open.

I don't have the 50 1.7 but I do have the FA 50 1.4, and IIRC, it is nearly the same optical configuration.

One of the things I most especially like about my FA 50 1.4 is it's amazing 3D ability DS f6.7 at 1/45 ISO 200

Somebody descirbed the bokeh of this lens as "bright ring" It can give some neat effects if you have light sources in the background. f2.8 at 1/125 ISO 800

Ah! I see. 8 blades in the aperture for the f1.4 (salty thanks for the pic, that gave it away), only 6 in the f1.7.

Too bad, I only have the SMCP-M 50mm f/2. Despite being much maligned, it's still a darn good lens.

Matt, I agree, it is a good lens. I know of many who have it, like it, and get great shots with it. It's prolly maligned by those same people who said the 50 1.2 wasn't sharp wide open.

NaCl(IIRC it's the lens that came bundled with the K1000 "back in the day" )H2O

I should've asked for all 50's to be posted. My oversight. You're welcome to do so!

M 50mm wide open. I tried taking a picture of myself, but the focus is just way to touchy wide open to focus on something that isnt in the picture yet.

I manually focused on the beads, ignoring the focus lock icon.
