France - Auvillar
Lens: 20-40 Ltd Camera: K-3
Posted By: Jacquot, 07-23-2016, 05:18 PM

These are from a recent trip to France, from a small village in the Southwest, in the Gers Department. The site has been inhabited since Roman times as it sits high above bluffs overlooking the Garonne River and offered panoramic views up and down the river. It is a lovely village with a round market structure in the center of a triangular "place," with a few medieval structures that have been restored recently. It was also the location for the film "Chocolat" about 15 years ago. These are all with the K-3 and the 20-40 Ltd.

Nice series- thanks for sharing. Think I may have been there many years ago while driving through France.

A great series of shots, makes me want to go there and see it for myself.

Very cool--I'm assuming it was part of Gallia Aquitania rather than Gallia Narborensis, but perhaps there was a pretty smooth continuum between the "long haired" vs. "trousered" part of Gaul? At any rate, I'll look forward to more shots--the second one of this set is my favorite, here.

Thanks all! And Jon, yes, this would seem to be part of the long-haired part of Gallia, but I need to do more research, I'm not sure my HS Latin Class got into that... And there's definitely more to come. The K-3/20-40 combo did very well, but the intense outdoor light was a bit of a challenge, especially with frequent visits to very dark chapels.

Yes, but you're in the south of France, so no sympathy here...we're rolling with 100+ heat indices Back East this week.
Otherwise, a very interesting piece of real estate you're exploring!
