Nice picture.
Reminds me of when I was a kid. I spent summers in Northern Minnesota. In the small village there was an ice house built around the late 1880's. It was largely an earthen structure with wood framing inside and a wooden door for entry/exit. The ice house was mostly built under ground, with just a slight rise at the surface of the earth and a slanted door and then steps downward into the abyss
of the ice house .
In the 1950's/60's they (local general store) were still using it to store huge chunks of ice that they had sawn from the nearby lake. People would buy chunks of ice to use for their camper coolers.
