Alyssum (?) flower
Lens: Sigma 18-300 f/3.5-6.3 + AML 72-01 macro lens Camera: Pentax K-3 Photo Location: Durham, UK ISO: 125 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F6.3

Not sure exactly what this flower is... Bought as a perennial "Alyssum" bedding plant earlier this year, and maybe it's a variety, but not what I was expecting!

Taken with the lens that just happened to be on my camera at the time - the Sigma 18-300, although I did screw on the AML 72-01 close-up lens (would have been much nicer with the DFA100, but it was a somewhat rushed shot in between doing other things!). Quick adjustments in LR6, Color Efex Pro and Nik Output Sharpener...

Good one Mike. Beautiful flower. I can't tell you what it is though as I've never seen one.

Thank you Yeah, it's a pretty thing. I've been looking online but still can't find what it is... Next time I go to the nursery I'll take the photo and ask them

Yes, it is very beautiful. THE Expert, (my wife) claims it is an Allysium.

Many thanks for sharing,

Antonio

Not Alyssum as I understand it down here in Australia but that's the problem with common names - they can vary by region.

Nice photo with lots of detail apparent with the 'hairs' on the petals.

Very nice shot. Lighting just a wee bit harsh for my own personal taste but nicely done.

Thank you Yes, I completely agree about the lighting - not a lot of choice, unfortunately; it wasn't a planned photo - I just noticed the flower while I was doing other things in the garden around mid-day, and decided to grab a snap of it while I could.

In post-processing I reduced the contrast (re-adjusting saturation accordingly) and brought the highlights down a little, but chose to keep the overall look as close to the actual scene as possible...

Been there, done that. More times than I can count.
