Wicked Storm
Posted By: innershell, 07-21-2008, 10:10 PM

After much complaining about my K10D, I took it out tonight in a storm to catch some lights. Here's the results.

Question: What do I focus on to get a good pic of lightning?

Really great. What settings/shutter speed did you use, if you don't mind?

If I recall correctly, this is what I used...
ISO: 100
F/5.6
1 second exposure

I wanted to keep the ISO low to avoid noise and when doing sample shots, the pictures came out pitch black. But with the light show, it is just about right.

Nice shots, you did well. I've tried that and timing those shots is frustrating as can be.

Timing is easy when the strikes happen fairly regularly (i.e. 1 strike every 15-20 seconds). So all I did was press it randomly and I had a 1 in 15 chance of catching something.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you focus on infinity with the Pentax K200? I can't seem to find that in the settings. Thanks in advance.

The first one is my favorite. I hope that's not someone's house giving off the redish hue.

Set the camera to manual focus and then focus the lens manually. (Some lenses have a switch for shutting off auto-focus).
