Rifle Waterfalls
Posted By: jbrowning, 07-22-2008, 08:27 AM

Well I made it to Rifle Falls on Saturday and here are a few photos I came away with.

I like the first one but I don't like the upper part where the water got blown out.

I really like the second one, even with the tree branch, leaves in the upper left corner. It does kinda catch your eyes and takes away from the falls. But what the heck. I still like it.

The last one needs a little bet less light on it I think, but I do like the flow of the water.

thanks
jim

These are nice waterfall shots--I love waterfalls. Tree branches are often a fact of life when shooting waterfalls in particular. I worry about all those Flicker people who will not miss an opportunity to say such and such detracts from your subject. Colorado has got to be an awesome place in which to live--good for you.

J: What were your aperture values and shutter speeds for these 3 pics? I like the thrid pic most.

Regards,

Ernest

I hope that is what you were looking for.

I am waiting for a polarising filter to arrive, so that I can perfect these sorts of shots.

firstly, did you have your camera on a tripod?

and... curious... why select these settings? esp. the 640iso in daylight?

Very nice series and the last one is the best IMO. Is this spot close to you? If so go there early in the morning or evening and take a tripod. The light will be much easier to work with and avoid the blown out spots like in #1

Hi HGMonaro, yes I did have the camera on a tripod and the reason for the ISO of 640 was because I forgot to change it after I took the 1st picture that was in really low light. So it was my oops that I forgot to change the ISO back to 100 or 200.

Hi Peter, this place is about 3 hours from home. But I am hoping to make it back up there on a weekend camping trip in the Oct time frame. I was there about 3 years ago the first week of October and it was great. There was only a handfull of people around.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies.

Thanks
Jim
