Sigma 70mm Macro Mantis Shrimp
Posted By: petenick, 07-24-2008, 10:02 AM

This is a 100% crop of my mantis shrimp lounging in one of his favorite holes. C&C appreciated!

The depth of field, even at f13 is still pretty shallow.

Ooooh! You mean mantis shrimp! I stared at that for a surprisingly long time before the penny dropped...

Nice shot, it's a great perspective and nice to see the shrimp doing its natural thing. Great contrast between the green body and purple algae, and you got the focus bang on.

So this is a 100% crop and also shot through aquarium glass? Great stuff and very well taken shot. I'm really surprised how sharp it is. Cool picture too with excellent colours.

Yes, it is the very middle of the image cropped out when i have it at 100% in Photoshop CS3. It was taken through the aquarium glass. This Sigma 70mm is really an excellent lens. The only editing done to the picture was the crop. I did try sharpening it with the unsharp mask tool, but it either did nothing or looked really bad depending on the settings within that tool, so i left it as is.
