Sometimes a little luck also helps
Posted By: Peter Zack, 07-24-2008, 06:38 PM

Shot with 1000mm f10 Meade Schmidt 1/160th K10D 2 sec MLU ISO 100

Same details but both these birds were at least 800 Meters from my shooting spot.

It was getting darker and I just couldn't take any more bird shots. But Playing with the new toy was too much fun. Damn this lens will not flare! Straight into the sun. This is why I gave the thread the title. 1/320

I love the bottom photo Peter,

My computer desktop hasn't been changed in a few weeks, hint hint hint
(although I'm on the road for a few days, so please don't send it to me now... if you do)

I'd say there's a wee bit more than luck at work here. Gorgeous shots. Dang I want some new lenses to play with.

Just to give a little perspective. Same shooting spot with the Tamron 28-75 at 63mm. Quite a difference between each lens. Neither image was cropped.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The first sun shot was a series of at least 20 till a gull flew into the scene.

Stu PM me your email address. I don't know if I still have it.

That 3rd shot is great Peter. This is probably a foolish question but how do you like that 1000mm lense?

Thanks Dave. I liked the bird shots as well. It's a learning curve and this certainly isn't going to track a running Cheetah. But then there aren't many of those around here

jbrowning, I really like it. it's like shooting film all over again. It can be hand held but is best on a support. Focus is slow and chimping is required to make sure the exposure is correct. Overall a bit slow to use but the possibilities are huge. I had the Bigma and it's a great lens in so many ways but I just wanted more. I've tried 4 different TC's with it and the IQ still holds up well.

To see more details and a pic of the setup you can go here:

I hope to take a few moon shots in a few minutes and if they turn out ok, I'll post them to that thread.
