Northern Norway; a landscape photographers playground
Lens: DA*16-50 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Varangerhalvøya ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Fries, 09-19-2016, 03:25 PM

I have been making my annual trip to Northern Norway this august and was exploring some new terrain in the Varangerhalvøya. A peninsula that (partly) is in the Arctic climate zone. The trip with two hikes reinforced my love for this area that is so different from my own densely populated country although my province is allright in that regard. Hope you like these.

Cheers,

Remco

1. Evening light over a small stream

2. The Komgelv river (lots of salmon and char in it)

3. A small blue tent

4. A char temporally out of the water (not a very good photo, I know...)

5. Barren mountains

6. Big country

7. Layers

8. Reindeer

Epic! You'd probably have to go to the Brooks Range in Alaska to find anything in the States that would compare. I'll vote for #5 as my favorite--living near a temperate rainforest as I do, that's a vista that blows my mind.

Thanks! Technically the fish photo isn't a landscape photo as advertised in the thread title. I am glad you were willing to overlook that!

Thank you! The wonderful thing about this region are the sometimes vast expanses of barren rock and tundra with relatively lush river valleys acting as a wonderful go-between for somebody like me that needs water, shelter and some good ground to camp.

A few of these look like paintings, especially the first! The almost oily look of the water is captivating. Well done!

Thank you! I used a 10 stop ND filter for the first one. Luckily there was almost no wind otherwise the long shutter speed would show in the blurring of moving plants.

Everybody loves to throw in a snapshot for laughs. Your compositions make us wish to see the land of Janse and others.

You know...according to the" Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" the guy who designed Norway won some big design prize...

I have read the book (great read, by the way) and I concur that most parts of Norway are exceptional beautiful. But Sweden, certainly up north, has some really beautiful areas too. The Kepnekaise massif, the area up from Kilpisjävri (Finland) bordering Norway, Abisko, Sarek, Padjelanta and more to the south the
Helagsfjället.

Edit: And I totally forgot to thank you for your kind words. So thank you!
