Car pics - Infinity G35
Posted By: gtolentino2, 07-28-2008, 08:49 PM

A recent shoot for a friend of mine...these shots are to be submitted to a car magazine and hopefully have his car featured and hopefully my shots published.....it was a cloudy day with sun poppin' in and out so it was quite hard for me to keep a consistent light....anyways, I present to you the Infiniti G35:

if anyone else is interested in the other cars I shot that day, check out my flickr:
7.21.2008 - Carshoot - a set on Flickr

C&C is always welcomed, I'm still looking to improve on a lot of areas of this type of photography.

Regards

whoops should have included it on the original post...the exterior shots were all taken with the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and the interior shot of the G35 was taken with a zenitar 16mm 'fisheye'

What did you use for lighting?

Looks pretty good, I think #3&4 would look amazing if you had lit the whole car...But great shots none the less

Eww, tuning is tasteless. Is your friend a professional pimp?

Joking aside, the shots are excellent, and the industrial setting is just right for the whole import tuning culture.

By the way, I thought it was Infiniti.

Awesome work! Loved all the shots, but particularly the first one - because of the "pose".

it is Infiniti!! lol, it was a late night post! what do you want me to say....

as for the others asking how I lit up the shots, all exterior shots were done with a 2 light set up using gadget infinity triggers to the strobes. The strobes themselves were pretty beat up Sunpak 422d's picked them up from e-bay as well.

The interior shot was done at a 2 light set up as well with shoot through umbrellas on the left and right side of the car.

i believe most, if not all the shots were done at 1/180 @ either F8 or F10.

you had to use some pritty large defuser, the light is spread so nicely trough the car!

very nice technique! I hope to be able to take pics like that relatively soon... did you have the flashes high up on a tripod to get that "spot light" look around the car?

I placed the 2 strobes on light stands and pointed down towards the car on most of the images illuminating the body panels .....I wouldn't consider the strobes to be relatively high...i'm about 5'10 and the strobes were typically eye level to me just aimed down a bit pointed to the wheel wells on most of the shots or the front grill

next time I shoot, I'll try to post a couple of set up shots

The first four images of this set were all shot with a bare flash.

The last 3 images from this set utilized umbrellas on both strobes to get that 'wrap around' soft light. The only thing I hate about using umbrellas is that it can leave some really ugly reflections as the light source is 'big'

I'm always impressed with cool car shots - and yours are exceptionally well done. Clearly, these are magazine quality so I hope they get published. The car is a bit "tricky" for my taste, but the photography is outstanding.

This is a really nice aeries indeed ... you have done well.
Good too see an old Zenitar being used for interior shots as well.

First shot to me = TOUGH ... that stance looks mean as.

Love it ... top work.
