Lincoln's Sparrow
Lens: 560mm APO triplet scope Camera: DL
Posted By: wildman, 11-03-2016, 01:33 AM

In my area not rare but hard to see and find. Usually ground feeding deep in the low light brush and very shy. A real chore for this photographer.
I usually return to where I have seen them before and set up at a distance, 40 feet or so, and just wait while I scan with my binos. This is a job for very long glass, 500+mm or so. I have noticed that where you hear the Wood Thrush you will also find the Lincoln - they seem to favor the same habitat in my area.

Very nicely done. A lot of the native sparrows are wary of people, and not easy to photograph.

It's a great image. Is that colour representation accurate?

Tell me about it. To this day I still don't have even a crummy snapshot of a Grasshopper Sparrow let alone a Henslow's even though they are more or less common in the grassland habitats around here. I swear they know when I take off the lens cap they go and hide. Sneaky buggers.

Wildman - you have been posting some amazing bird photos lately - a testament to your skill and patience. Amazing (to me) how well that good-old camera works in some capable hands!
