Roan Dawn
Lens: DA 15, FA 50, DA 70 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: East Tennessee
Posted By: mole, 11-03-2016, 05:38 PM

Recently had the chance to lead some hikes for the Roan Mountain Fall Naturalist Rally. With the busy pace and great participation at these hikes, there's rarely time for the hike leaders to take any photos. So I planned to arrive early for my own hike up on the Roan Highlands to watch the sunrise.

Here are two views of the bright pre-dawn.

Here are some B&W views of the early morning mist.

And sun coming up over the balds!

Hope you will have the opportunity to visit this rich wild place for yourself sometime soon. Thanks for any comments & critique.

Mole! Very good to see you posting--your herps and Lepidoptera shots are great as always, but I'm really digging your forays into monochrome landscape...hope to see more. As for me, an unfortunate encounter with my podiatrist left me in a surgical boot all October, but I'm looking forward to getting into the high country once the tourists leave (and I grow a bit more skin.)

Sure do hope and pray your recovery is quick and complete!

Thanks to google offering Nik Silver Efex for free, have had more opportunities to play around with monochrome. Even did a few family portraits in B&W recently... Glad you liked them, and am also hoping for some opportunities for more landscape explorations soon.

Thanks, Mole! I'm ambulating in a suburban setting okay right now, so I'm hoping to be out in the backcountry for the winter season, at least.

Wow - these are wonderful! I particularly like the third one - terrific use of B&W.
