The indoor season has begun, trying out new things this time. First time working with Lina "properly" in the studio (only polaroids before). Got a deal for a FA 100mm F2.8 Macro as well, while not the perfect portrait lens it sure can produce some nice images Time for a behind the scenes again too, been a while.

Pentax K-3 II, SMC Pentax-FA 100mm F2.8 Macro, 1/180 sec at f/7.1, ISO 100

It's nice to see someone else with impressive credentials apart from yourself.

Great shots of a beautiful model. And thanks for the behind the scene view, as a beginner I find these useful.

Happy that you like them! The behind the scenes is also helpful for myself to remember the placement of the lights and general setup

Great shots!

I just purchased a F 100mm macro. It is in the mail, but I hope it performs as well as your FA does.

It is actually pretty funny story, I got my FA100 Macro for free with another lens, it was supposed to be broken, but I haven't found anything wrong with it six months later... Perhaps a bit soft at wider apertures and macro range, but really nothing out of the ordinary.

What a deal!

I know you mentioned you use the 77mm limited often. I was looking for "Portrait" focal length prime and debated the DA 70. I also had a need for a macro in my kit, so I am hoping this lens will satisfy both needs.

How would you say it compares to your limited? Does the focus limiter help with focusing speed?

Well, I started out with the DA70 as my first main portrait lens, and a good general short telephoto. The FA77 adds just a little bit more character, shorter DoF.. Since I got the FA100 Macro I've tried it a few times for portraiture and it works very well for that. Focusing speed with Phase Detect is very fast, and the focusing limited doesn't make it faster, but avoids it going into the macro range, if it should start to hunt (rare). For some reason it is very slow to focus in live view. From what I can tell from a few sessions, image quality and focal length is fine for portraiture, but it is much larger and heavier than the DA70 or FA77.
