I really like this shot. The color of the background really adds to the nice colors of the fly!

I think in these pictures with a very slim plane of focus, there is an art to getting what little focus there is in a place that works (various places on the rear leg here) and have the things that are OOF to varying degrees be things that can work that way. I agree that the colors and glistening qualities of those areas keep them working well, rather than seeming dissatisfying, in this picture.

As scientific illustration, the picture would be a failure, but that is nothing like it's purpose.
