Originally posted by wildman Nope. Did have a Brittany Spaniel (Rip) for a while. But he was a very active aggressive hunter and always wanted to get out into the woods and raise hell with the wildlife. The soul of a ferret in the body of a dog.
We ended up giving him to a terminally ill 9 year old boy. The boy died at the age of 14 and Rip a few years later. Rip seemed to know the boy needed him so he calmed down and spent many hours just sitting along side the boy in his wheel chair on the porch. I don't think he was ever meant for us but as it ended RIP was the right dog for the right boy. They are both now buried side by side in a little rural cemetery.
Rip on right with his Irish friend...
we had a brit for several years
it was most neurotic creature I have ever lived with
she was afraid of rifles but loved shotguns (yes, she knew the difference)
she hated cows but loved horses
she slept on the foot of the bed
got up in the morning and crashed through cornfields and dry creekbeds with an absolute zeal
for every hour in the field I spent an hour combing burrs out of her coat
after all that, she pointed mice
you knew it was a mouse because he tail wagged
with birds she was as still as a sculpture
nice story about your rip
ours was a wire fox (ripley)
the most feline canine I have ever met
at one point we had six pups in our little house
the largest an irish wolfhound
the smallest a rat terrier
we had no squirrels, rabbits, ground squirrels, rats or mice
even the neighbor's bird eating cats stayed on their side of the fence
a couple of moles dug without compunction, however
