Post-Christmas New Camera Syndrome
Lens: DFA 29-105 Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Brazosport College
Posted By: Sailor, 12-26-2016, 04:51 PM

This afternoon I exhibited new camera syndrome (NCS) by taking my new K-1 and DFA 28-105 over to the local college to photograph things I've photographed before when I had previous bouts of NCS. It was a cloudy - but remarkably warm - day, so I was able to stroll around in shorts trying all sorts of stuff with the camera.

Here's a group of photos that you will instantly recognize as demonstrating NCS.

I am; it's fun to revisit the 135 format I started with back in '78 when I bought my first SLR, a Pentax MX. I like the look the big sensor produces and its low-light performance is - to my old eyes - extraordinary. I do wish the camera weren't so bulky and heavy, and the interface - with the zillions () of buttons and dials - is too fussy for my tastes. Still, I'm delighted with the camera overall.

However, I certainly won't be retiring my K-3, which is an outstanding performer and - overall - more versatile than the K-1, since the K-3 has a longer "effective" reach with lenses that won't herniate the photographer . In fact, I think my new general-use DSLR kit will be my K-3 coupled with the new DFA 28-105 and my DA 15 or DA 21.

Congrats on the K1...I am loving mine, that AF is so excellent for my shooting needs! You will have so much fun with the K1, it is remarkable!

Warm! Yep, it was 82F here yesterday and will be in the 70s this weekend. Going to take the TT on a road trip out to Balmorhea...you ever been out there Jer? I've been everywhere around Balmorhea, to Big Bend and all the surrounding areas....Ft Davis etc, but never there. Supposed to be perfect weather there too this weekend.

Ready to roll! I have 4 new Dunlop Signature high performance tires and my "Detail Lady" did her inside and out yesterday.

15 years old and like new inside and out! Such a fun little Toy Car!

BTW- My son got a Nissan Rogue and loves it so far......I just bought one for my sister too...my Mom is 90 and no longer drives much so my sister is her transportation.....the Rogue was perfect for her needs. You wife still happy with hers?

Best Regards & good to see you my friend!

Man, it's great to hear from you.

Your TT is looking lean, clean and mean - enjoy your trip!

Connie still loves her Rogue - it's almost 5 years old now (seems impossible), has about 22,000 miles and looks like brand new; her Dunlops look very much like they did on the day we took delivery - I can't believe it (I can tell you Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Pirelli P Zeros don't give this kind of service!).

I'm having fun learning the K-1 and relearning the 135 format that started me in photography with a Pentax MX 38 years ago. The only frustration is that the photos I post on the Forum (via Photo Bucket) tend to lose some of the sparkle I see on the full screen views I see on my Mac.

Again, I hope you and Mrs. Rupert are having fun and will have a super New Year!

Hey, Ivan - I'm really looking forward to playing with my K-1. I was tempted to go Nikon a few years back. However, my investment in Pentax lenses made switching impractical, especially since it's me - not the camera - that's the limiting factor in my photos!

Hey, Ivan, just talk to my wife; she'll explain my limits in excruciating detail.

Thanks for the kind words, buddy.
