I can hardly keep my hands off my new K-1, and - since I like to do automotive photography - I pulled my 911 out of the garage for some pics this afternoon.

My only frustration with the 911 is that you simply cannot see the motor, which is tucked behind the rear axle, unless you lay on the ground for a glimpse of the headers. The best I can do is raise the rear panel and look at the cooling fans. Here are some pics that reflect that frigid experience.

More importantly, I am so impressed with the performance of my K-1; so what if the thing is too big, too heavy and has too many gizmos. Unfortunately, that performance frustratingly doesn't translate - in my hands at least - when posted on the forum via Photobucket.

A very nice auto...i'm still saving for an aircooled 911 but I fear at the way the prices have gone on older 911's I might never be able to afford one..

Thanks much. Yeah, I spend too much (much too much) on toys in my old age; the 911's stable mate is a BMW M4 coupe - for a 70-year-old geezer to own two such cars is lunacy, but I love 'em.

Thanks, Ivan. And you're right, 911s call for prime lenses ; I've got an FA 31 and FA 77 that will give the 911 the royal treatment when I get around to it.

Thank you. Like you, I'd love to have an air cooled one, as well; I'd especially like a 964 C2, but they're getting awfully pricey. Another thing to remember is that service on a Porsche - air cooled or contemporary - costs an arm and a leg.

Yup - Connie cleared the K-1; it actually my Christmas present from her! It's a big beast and weighs as much as my first Mazda MX-5, but it sure produces photos with rich colors and a lot of dimensionality.

Next time you're in our neck of the woods, you should drive my 911; I'm betting you'd love it.

Here are a few pictures from the K-1/28-105 combo of the whole car. I X-posted these a couple of days ago on the dedicated K-1 forum, where I mentioned that the car is not quite pristine - lots of brake dust and a few water spots. I had invasive hernia surgery about 3 weeks ago, so I'm not quite ready for the squatting and other gymnastics I go through when detailing my cars.

Of course I can offer you a ride on my motorbike when you came over here! Acceleration is not bad, probably close to the "Neunelfer"

In ten days I'll be in Tokyo again ... with the current exchange rate I'm not sure I can resist picking up a K1 ...

Holy Cow, old buddy! Believe it or not, earlier today I was thinking about you and others of the "old gang" back in the early days of the forum when we seemed to cheer each other on almost every day.

How are you doing? Are you still working? Are you still photographically active? Still fishing?

I turned 70 last year (2016) and - in anticipation of that event - bought the 911, which I'm enjoying more than any car I've owned since my first car in 1964, a brand-new Mustang. I haven't been too active in photography for a while, so I bought the K-1 to rejuvenate my interest - working so far, but it's a big bastard, and I don't know if my ancient, scrawny frame can carry the load over the long run.
