Tin City started in the late 1800’s early 1900’s with two tin huts that were built as fishing shacks. In the Great Depression Tin City grew to 14 huts. Apparently it was known as Tin City due to the buildings being made from Tin and was also a play on the name Steel City (referring to Newcastle about 30 mins to the south). Some movies have been made at this location, including parts of Mad Max.
