1/15th second!!! I guess the flash helped with freezing the motion, but still ...

Very nice shot.

thanks Des, no flash here, let me explain . . I was tracking the bird on the front of the bush in full direct sun, late in the day. Av mode, set F13.5 trying to get good DOF, the bird then moved into the shadows at the side of the bush, following the bird in the viewfinder I was more concerned with composition & focus and didn't notice the shutter had dropped to 1/15s, (note the grossly over exposed foliage which was in direct sun) , I shot off 4 or 5 shots in a few seconds, the first shot was blurred due to the bird moving, the sound of the shutter startled the bird and it froze as I took the second shot (the posted shot) it then started about it's business again as it realised it was just that pesky photographer, shots 3,4 & 5 blurred, I was braced against a fence, but a testament to Pentax SR I think

I assumed that the blown foliage in the foreground was from a flash. I should have known it wasn't because of the background foliage being lit too.

Testament to SR yes. Testament to skill too.

I must learn the technique of using the noisy AF on the 55-300 to get the bird to freeze. Usually seems to have the opposite effect for me.
