Yesterday my DFA 2.8 100 macro packed it in....
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 08-02-2008, 03:08 PM

....got stuck and refused to focus. Never did like the build quality of it but optically it was good. Made a phone call to "The Camera Store" in Calgary and drove in this morning for an over the counter exchange. I have had the lens for nine month, so that was pretty good service I think.
The new lens, while still not as solid and smooth as my old Pentax lenses feels a lot better than the departed one and focuses , for lack of a better word "snappier". The serial # of the new one is way higher than the old one and the package had the announcement of the name change to Hoya in it so it is probably of late manufacture.

Anyway I went outside for half an hour and tried it out, seems to work OK.

Great series Heinrich! Glad you had a quick resolution (no pun) to the problem, although I am not sure how long it was round trip!

Look forward to more images!

Cheers,
Marc

Looks like you got a good 'un this time, Heinrich. I recall that you expressed some misgivings about the build quality of your first one some time ago. I bought one about the same time you did, but it seems to be pretty solid. Hope it holds up; so far so good.

Anyway, a great series - as always comes from your camera.

Jer

Amazing detail and sharpness. Back to lens envy again. Sigh.

Nice work.

Thank you Marc, the roundtrip including store time was an hour and a half.

Thanks Dave, I am very happy with the way that they responded. They could have just send it in for repair and it's doubtful that I would have had it back before I leave on my East Coast trip in another two weeks.

Take care,

Thank you Jer, this one feels a lot better than the deceased one and I hope that it stays that way.

Thank you Jim and I'll try and cut back a bit on the time. The store is "The Camera Store" , I have dealt with them for the last eight years and they have always treated me right.

Take care,
