Catching the weeds
Posted By: gawan, 08-02-2008, 04:37 PM

Most of the vegetation photographs I have taken are flowers, trees, and other distinct objects. But I always have admired the big grass, hay, and other such humble vegetation that glows in the sun and waves in the wind.

Some how these seem to be hard to catch in a photo, they always seem to miss that "thing", that caught the eye.

Here are two attempts, they required some photoshoping to approximate what my eyes saw! What do you think? Appreciate also to see your hay/grass/weed pics.

This is also from Shenandoah but not as nice as Mel's.
Nice Susan! Same meadow, different time of day. Isn't it gorgeous up there?

More roadside weeds ....

We drove to Manitoulin Island yesterday for something to do and, as always, I dragged my camera along. After a quick picnic lunch outside of the village of Kagawong I took a few snaps of the 'wild flowers' (weeds!) beside the picnic table.

All are taken with the 50mm f1.4.

I guess I should tell you what they are, too!
The blue one is Chicory, the white is Queen Anne's Lace and the yellow is Goldenrod.

db2, that sure sets a nice mood. Like it.
Thanks Damn Brit. The pic is one of my favorites from the trip. I actually laid down on the ground to get that perspective.

Mel - nice shot love the blue sky

Gary - nice close up - some interesting colors in there for sure

James - pretty barren looking land there - weeds are resilient

Slowpez - nice view , nice colors

Alan - again nice framing and like Mel's the blue sky really adds to the shot

Aleonx3 - that first one looks interesting

Jeff - good captures even weeds can be colorful

db2 - nice BW conversion works well in this instance

Even with the harsh climate here as mentioned before the word resilient

Thanks and very cool (I mean cold!) shot Dave. It's actually refreshing to see some snow this time of the year...
