On that day... shooting at the limits of the camera, the images are a bit flat.... but, 3200 ISO and ƒ8, you've lost a lot of dynamic range, even if the noise is still acceptable..
Next day with better light and 800 ISO and F 11... much more contrasty results....
The main issue is 600 FF is sort of a minimum for birding. The 400 on a K-1 is not much better than a DA*60-250 on APS-c.Believe it or not, I bought this lens from a man who used it as his long lens for weddings on film. On one of these I actually had to turn the contrast down when using my standard preset.
