Lasioglossum on Monarda
Lens: FA 100mm f2.8 Camera: K3II Photo Location: Fermilab Natural Areas ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F16

A Lasioglossum bee gathering pollen from a Monarda "bee balm" flower at Fermilab. I like the exposure and the flow of this. Even cropped close, the bee is in focus.
The prairie is full of beauty.

good catch - it looks like the bee is clinging to the flower - usually looks much easier for the insect.

She's systematically removing pollen from the flower. She's so small she won't deliver pollen where the plant wants. Not to worry, plenty of critters use Monarda for nectar and visit frequently, ensuring these common plants get fertilized.

I love the black/green color of these dilactus-tribe Lasioglossum.
