Christmas Cactus
Lens: Sigma 17-70mm Camera: K20D Photo Location: Louisville, KY

The missus received a Christmas cactus from coworkers several years ago. She says it used to bloom faithfully every year. When she changed places of employment, she brought it home and it stopped blooming. Well, about 4 months ago I changed it's position to receive more sun. Today she was excited to point this out...

Absolutely beautiful, wonderful colors and sharpness make this shot a classic.

Both your images today are beautiful, I think the black background sets the plants off excellently but how do you do it.

Thanks, everyone. @PenPusher: I keep it simple -- I use black velvet for the background.

Thank you, I thought you might have been using some fancy lighting arrangement.

I keep things simple. Light on this was done with a clamp-on light from Walmart, 60 watt equivalent daylight bulb, and a shower cap as a diffuser.

It's overcast and grey with a light drizzle here at the moment, I shall steal a couple of my wife's Camellia blossoms and retire to my shed and see how much of a mess I can make of them. Thank you.
