Bird dropping spider
Lens: Sigma 105mm Macro Camera: K5 IIs
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 02-12-2017, 05:14 PM

I haven't see one of these for ages. I am on the way to a job and see this harmless looking bird dropping on a rose leaf. What gave it away to me was its symmetry. I honestly can't recall the last time I saw one but have been on the watch for years.

I will put him a box for closer examination and release him this afternoon.

Had me fooled for a minute here!
Really, I thought this was "the real thing".

Fascinating shot, to say the least.

Thanks all for your comments. Much appreciated.

I got him into a white box with a flash for some extra shots before I released him back onto the rose bush. Better detail on the legs. I find it amazing how it all folds up like a 'transformer toy'

From my limited research it seems this one hunts male moths at night by releasing the scent of female moths. A second layer of deception. The first layer the disguise is apparently only for self protection during the day.
