Incredible wildlife shots... in my backyard
Posted By: Syb, 08-07-2008, 12:46 PM

Some days ago I was hunting for a frog. With my camera, that is. In my very own backyard. All of a sudden the animal appeared to be hunting as well. Here is the result.

Do not forget you are looking at the dramatic last seconds of that worm.

The frog is already looking for another victim...

They were all taken using K10d and SMC A*300mm/2.8 and SMC 1.4L Teleconverter. Did some pp in the colors and cropping though.

very nice sequence of shots, well done. And thanks for sharing. Just wondering how much cropping do you have in those pictures since you already have quite a reach with that teleconverter.

Thanks, I cropped the images from 3872 pixels to 1800-2100 pixels wide,

and

from 2592 pixels to approximately 1400- 1566 high (keeping the 9*7 ratio that I chose for the first img I cropped)

Did not know Frogs ate worms - nice series although hardly seems like a fair fight.

Great sequence of action there. The last 3 shots are clearer and hence helping to interpret the first 2 shots.

What a great details even with teleconverter. Great lens you have there and good skill.

Very true. What I like about the first two, is that they show (or implicate) how fast it all went. The use of Mr Frogs left hand to push the worm in his mouth is seen in pic2.

In pic1 you basically see the motion blur by Mr Frog moving his head towards his food. I know this is not how we humans want to be seen eating decently. But animals don't learn etiquette...

Thanks for your comments!
