These look like pretty significant crops - none the less WOW the eyes have it. Nicely done.

Thanks.

Only a 50% crop.
Taken with Tamron 90mm F2/8 and Vivitar 2X macro teleconverter. Hand held and manual focus.

Focus was a swine and it took multiple shots but got there in the end

Not much more to say really, used 360-AF flash attached to the camera.
Glad you like them anyway.

Nothing to yawn about here that's for sure. Even with the heavy crop they look good. But is the fly dead? it looks dried up (eyes have lost the smooth dome and look sunk in, in the centers)

Nope, he was alive and twitching .. I was amazed he actually sat there as long as he did considering the lens was nearly touching his nose (if its called a nose).
It may just be the way the flash reflected off the eye.

Thats actually 2 different flies btw.

Here is the original uncropped version, but resized due to it would take ages to load if I posted the original.

I like the originals much better. The detail is very good and they are plenty close. Nice stuff. The eyes look better and maybe it was just the crop.

Fly eyes are like that. They have a "sunken in" part in an irregular polygon shape. Never knew this before I started taking macros and looking at those others took more closely.
