Sitting on the pad
Posted By: Mr Hyde, 08-08-2008, 08:43 AM

This toad was about the size of my thumb nail. Shot with the Tamron 28-75mm. This was taken at ISO 1600. I attempted to reduce the noise in the second photo. Did I go overboard with the PP?

Not in my book. If you hadn't stated that the noise was reduced, I would never have suspected.

Yeah, they've been losing their tails and hopping out for a couple of weeks now. They're usually pretty docile when they first come out, I think it's because they are warming themselves up in the sun.
I got one the other day about maybe a little smaller than your guy. I'll post it in a while. Mine's a tree frog by the way.
I like your shot, nice colours and markings in the leaf. Bottom left hand corner is a bit distracting though, maybe you could try cropping or cloning some of it out.I think you did go a bit over with the PP, a lot of the detail has gone out of the warts on the toad.

Thanks for your input. I was thinking that the noise reduction was a bit strong. I agree that some of the detail was lost on the toad.

alot of people looked at this thread but only two replies.... I was hoping to get more of a consensus. Perhaps I should have made it a poll?

Honestly, I didn't notice the grain at all until I really looked for it. There's a little bit of lost saturation(?) in the 2nd one but you wouldn't notice unless you're comparing side-by-side.
Nice photo.

That's normal Mr Hyde... Everyone's likes and dislikes vary along with preferred styles. I know I have posted many pictures and sometimes you will get 10 replies while other times none. Don't worry, its just our pride that gets hurt, at times and of coarse we always think our pictures are worth comments!!

I prefer your second shot over the first. GLThorne, nice shot!

Gary: As usual you captured the moment well. Cheers JIMBO

I actually like both versions. To my eye the leaf detail comes accross better in the first photo and the toad's colours stand out more in the second but I don't have a strong preference either way.

I don't know about the PP, but I think the image would greatly improve if the frog was fully in focus- that is greater depth of field.
