Many thanks to everyone. Mr. Ed, my set up is EXTREMELY simple: I shoot against black velvet. I normally use light from the window but since it was raining heavily, I used my whizbang-supertech-ultrafancy studio light. It consists of a clamp-on light from Walmart, a 90w-equivalent daylight spectrum LED bulb and a shower cap (also from Walmart). I have it clamped onto a pencil because it fits in the umbrella holder on my cheap eBay light stand. The most expensive thing in this set-up is the black velvet. You *can* use felt, but velvet seems to produce a blacker, richer black. You can see the difference between the felt on the box and table and the velvet in the background. I put my K20D on a tripod and use a wireless remote shutter release... again an inexpensive brand I picked up on Amazon for like $20. Note the spritzer bottle. A little bit goes a long way. For holding the daffs I useds a container from one of my used Epi-pens with a piece of Gorilla tape around it so the soldering clamp I found at a Goodwill for $2 can have something to hold onto. If you have a single-stemmed flower, use a florists water pick (a small green tube I get from a local florist - free). Again, the key is KISS and experiment... AND HAVE FUN WITH IT. The light is easy to move around so you can try different angles. Same with the small cardboard box I covered with black felt.
