Cute but a Pest
Lens: Pentax 55-300 Camera: Pentax K-3 Photo Location: My Backyard ISO: 100 Aperture: F5.6

Possums, I know, you think they are cute but they are a menace. They always take a particular liking to my lemons. I caught this one on the roof of my garden shed. They are protected in Australia and they seem to know it.

Cheers

Nice shots. They're not protected here. And they know it!

They are often heard on my roof here in Tasmania, and have taken a liking to my veg garden.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
At night they chase each other across the tiled roof of my house and it sounds like as if the whole damn roof is about to come down.

I just had my roof repaired, set me back $10,000.00 thanks to the little critters. Not happy !

I've watched them de-wool possums. Clever machine. When my son was younger we'd go possum hunting at night with spotlights but I've not done that for some time.

No. My son used to go to a rural school with an annual kids hunting competition. The deal was that parents took the kids out hunting vermin and the kids were awarded prizes on hunting day. There would be hundreds of possums handed in and usually also some rats, mice (obviously not shot ) and other pests like magpies. We got lucky one night and even got a ferret.

The possum fur man came along and de-furred the hundreds of possums right there. The deal was he got all the wool (and donated to the school) but had to take away the possum carcases. I could post photos but some may not like them!

Your Aussie possums are cute. Our California ones are ugly (sorry I don't have a photo).

Oh well, last time I was in California I remember seeing other creatures which were nice to look at. Look but don't touch as I found out.

I think your O-possum is a different beast altogether.
