The Algonquin Dome is 700 feet higher than even 100 miles further south. If I went to Peterborough Ontario, 100 miles south it is 50ºf today. Low last night 0ºC, high 7ºC. Us, -14ºC overnight, +4ºC this afternnoon. I could drive down there and go for a stroll based the canal or the Trent River. Up here, the lakes are still frozen and we have 34cm of snow in the bush.
SO, ya, it's cold and icy here, but in two hours I could be strolling in the warm spring sunshine in a T shirt. Even driving 40 miles south to to Bancroft would be noticeably warmer. And they have Timmy's donut shops there, and shopping.
It's cooler here, but we don't have to go far to get milder temperatures.
