That grille and bonnet (hood) are unmistakeable. I'm sure the owner wouldn't agree, but those alloy wheels don't do anything for the car, in my opinion.

Not sure they were ever sold here as I can't recall seeing any.

I'm pretty sure they were, but then, I'm probably older than you are?

Hey, Bob - that's a great photo and composition. Lots of times, partial shots of cars don't work too well, but this one's a dandy. You 'da man.

I was born in '46, and I remember the Willys Jeep, although I don't know if that's from reading about it or seeing them around when I was very young.

I remember the car you photographed, but only as drag racers and hot rods.

Nice shot of the Willys Americar. I recall back in the '60's that ever so often you'd see one at the drag strip, usually set up as a gasser...with a Chevy V8, sometimes Olds Rocket V8 or early Hemi. Their light weight made them a good choice.

The Willys Overland and the Willys Overland Whippet sold well in Australia in the 1920s and early 30s.

Back around 1937 when I was a young teenager our neighbor bought a Willys Overland sedan. It was small for the day and we kids looked down on it for we thought the Ford with its V8 was the only way to go. I still remember the look of it. The picture shown is a 1941 I believe. Anyway I think that the T. J. Richards company in Adelaide used to build bodies that were similar to the ones produced by Willys.

When I think of the name Willys it immediately goes back to my old drag racing days when they ran in the A/Gas class. Short wheelbase, large horsepower cars that were a real handful at times when they went to AA/Gas and AA/Gas Supercharged.

This is exactly the image that forms in my mind, brother Bob, when I hear the name Willys. My Lord, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

I don't think I've ever seen this car over here ... but the picture of the drag race shows what I've missed!
Thanks for the history lesson Bob!

Well Norbert, you do have the Autobahn and I like those bikes that race with spikes in their tires used for traction. Next time you come to the US if their is a drag strip nearby, take a day and see why it is so popular here. You'll be amazed, honestly.
