Cooper's Hawk came to visit
Lens: Sigma 50-500 Camera: Pentax K1 Photo Location: Boardman, OR ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F6.7
Posted By: dagray, 04-23-2017, 02:31 PM

A Cooper's Hawk came to hunt sparrows and finches in my back yard, and he even stayed on the fence long enough for me to get the camera, open the back door, and get a few frames of him.

This is a crop from the frame as these birds are bigger than a Kestrel, but smaller than a crow, and the distance was about 40 feet.

Enjoy.

Nice shot, I just saw one for the first time a few weeks ago. They have crazy looking red eyes.

Love the detail and colour of the picture. Wish one of these would visit me too.

Thank you all for the kind words.

This is a crop as even at only 40 feet with a 500mm lens these birds are hard to shoot and get the magnification.

I probably should have put the teleconverter on, but that sometimes leads to soft focus.

Thank you sir.

I am really enjoying the Sigma 50-500 on the Pentax K-1 in FF mode.
