Lest we forget
Lens: Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Camera: K3 Photo Location: Canberra, Australia ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/50s Aperture: F2.8

Today was a very sad and damp Anzac Day. It's the main day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand for military sacrifice, and originated in the hope that the loss of so many lives in Gallipoli in WW1 would never be forgotten. It has evolved into a commemoration for all those who served in the military in all conflicts from the Boer War to today.

Thanks! I was trying to get something which didn't actually show a specific name, while being a bit sad. It's great that Anzac Day is popular, but I think people also need to visit the graves of their ancestors now and then, especially those who gave their lives defending Australia.

Nice capture.

The Newfoundland Regiment (now Royal) was at Gallipoli too, although only in reserve. This regiment wasn't wiped out until July 1st, 1916, in another ill-conceived, wasteful offensive at Beaumont-Hamel, France, as part of the larger battle for Vimy Ridge.

Yes, the waste of British and Commonwealth lives was horrendous. As you say, many who survived Gallipoli were killed in France.

not to get too political but the waste of life, both military and civilian, in war knows no nationality

we must not lose sight of that fact
