Some macro odds and ends....
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 08-12-2008, 07:41 PM

..... came in from the garden and sat down at the computer and there is this little bug sitting on my shirt. Looked around for something to put him on, the beanbag was handy for a background. It is a "Tarnished Plant Bug".

Saw this little Orbweaver and on the screen the picture looked a little strange of sorts but couln't put my finger on it. The following day it was still sitting at the same place and than I realized that he was stone dead.

I had a real hard time with those little Red-tailed Bumble Bees, just wouln't sit still long enough for a decent picture

So I figured I might as well try in flight pictures, not much more succesfull neither

This really tiny fly showed a bit more cooperation. BTW, the flowers are of a Potentilla shrub and average about (give or take a 1/4) 1 inch from tip to tip. Just to show you how tiny that fly really is.

All images with K10D and DFA 2.8 100mm macro

Some macro...

I think you are being a little hard on yourself Heinrich. Those bee shots are very good. My favourite is #4 - the bee coming in for a landing. It seems to be suspended in place.

Macro

Found this beast outside the kitchen window this evening. A tad overexposed with some reflection from the window. He ran off before I could make adjustments.

Wow! Heinrich, these are some of the most clear and clean macros I've ever seen. I love the last bee in flight shot. Each one you share here is really awesome! Excellent work.

Great work Heinrich, like them all, but another vote for #5. I too had a similar episode to your spider shot. Was walking the shallows at low tide and came across a really nice rock crab. They are rather small and quite shy so I was surprised that this little fellow let me photograph him. That was when I realized he was kinda dead.

Beautiful macros Heinrich, really like that 4th shot with the wing movement surrounding the bee.

You are being far too modest as your macros are as sharp as a tack

cheers

Thank you Tom for the kind words. # 4 is purily accidental, when I pressed the shutter it was still sitting on the flower.

Take care,
