The Carden Alvar is basically ranch land and grass lands which are being reclaimed to provide habitat for grasslands species. Made necessary by the fact that gravel pits were buying up the ranches at an alarming pace, there has been concerted effort to buy up, or otherwise reclaim some of the ranches in the area.
