Both are fine portraits. There are hints of oversharpening, and the subject could be a bit brighter (ie the stem looks a little dark to me). Still, as portrait studies, bravo!

Superb photography here. Very well executed and most impressive. I have seen some great performance from that Sigma 17~70 lens. It is the only third party equipment I had considered purchasing. Of course, the Pentax k20d is also an excellent provider of quality photographs.
