Remembering Mom
Lens: DFA 100 Macro Camera: K-1
Posted By: Sailor, 05-14-2017, 09:01 AM

My Mom, who passed in 2002, is buried in the small town in Southern Illinois where I grew up. Every year before Mother's Day, I pull out my credit card, call a local florist and order flowers to be delivered to her gravesite. Frankly, it has become an obligatory ritual with little meaning, since I nor anyone else will see or enjoy the flowers; they simply set in the cemetery until they're cleared away. This year, rather than just "check off the box" for Mother's Day, my wife and I decided to take the time to pick out some flowers in person, arrange them ourselves (well, by my wife) and enjoy them here - where we can think of Mom every time we look at them. This morning I took a few pictures.

What a nice way to remember your Mom (and the pictures aren't bad neither).

Hey, buddy - I seem to remember a few times where she might not have thought so! Thanks much.

Lovely sentiments, Jer. Both my parents have passed away, my dad in '95, my mom in '06. Don't think a day goes by that I don't think of them and always with very warm memories. In 1988 my dad had a portrait photograph taken of the two of them. It hangs in a place of honor, overlooking our dining table in the dining room of our house.

That's a great way to do it and to remember your mother at the same time.

I lost my mother last year. I miss her very much as her illness meant I saw her every day up till her passing. I also lost my sister last year. Both to untreatable conditions so they had rather too much time to think about it.
I planted one of my mother's Japanese maples in my back lawn.
My father passed away in 2004 but the last year has renewed my sadness at his passing away too.
Maybe it's my age but it's not getting any easier just yet.

I lost my mother in 2013 and every mothers day, birthday and special holiday I feel unique that pain of loss.
Enjoy all the time you have with your mothers and let them know how much the are loved and appreciated.

P.S. Every day you see your mothers should be Mothers Day!

Thanks, Les. I lost my Dad in '95, as well. I miss both him and Mom very much.
