A survivor of a miserable day of shooting.
Lens: Pentax 18~55mm Camera: Pentax K100D Super Photo Location: Sherwood Forest ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F22

It was definitely a massacre today and this is one of the few survivors.

Focal Length @ 43mm, Used onboard flash with Spot Metering.

You are correct. I was very surprised and delighted to spot this. I have never seen an orchid with this color configuration. This one was fun.

It is a very cool flower to be sure, and I like the framing.

The direct flash is a bit too dominant to my eyes, and the lens hood has blocked the light from reaching the bottom of the frame. A shoe mount flash with a diffuser would have given a softer effect without the vignette.

Letting in a bit more ambient light (and also winding down the flash) would help to give the flower a sense of depth. Opening up to f/11 would still allow good depth of field, and produce less diffraction.
