Birds of the day
Lens: DA 560 Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Heinz Wildlife Refuge
Posted By: KiloHotelphoto, 06-16-2017, 05:01 PM

Weather wasn't the best today, no sun at all so I just took a little walk through a local wildlife refuge and saw a couple birds I've never seen before. The first was a Prothonotary Warbler, the little yellow one. And the second was a Purple Gallinule, the purplish blue one. The others are a Gray Catbird, dove and robin.

Thanks bertwert, I really liked how the dove turned out and the robin at ISO 3200 came out nice also I think.

Those look awesome. I just love seeing evidence of folks getting out and about. In photography, if you're tired of pictures of the same old thing, go someplace different.

The nice thing about this wildlife refuge is every season it changes Norm, you never know what you will see. I try to get there twice every season, and I usually have the wrong lens with me for what I see but every once in a while I get lucky with what I bring.

The wrong lens thing is certainly an issue. Solved by many by just buying a 150-600 or a 150-450. Then you run into low light issues because your zooms are all slow. The hotshots around me have their big 500 or 600 ƒ4s on a big huge tripod they can barely more, but have an APS-c camera with 200 - 400 type lens on it for other stuff. They don't miss anything that comes to them, but they don't do a lot of walking wither. You just can't win without hiring a couple guys to carry gear for you.
