Posted By: thomasjmpark, 08-16-2008, 01:12 PM

Hi,

Just a few pics from my outing today. I stopped at this disused mine for a while, fascinating little place, its 130 yrs old and stopped operation about 30 yrs ago..

Thanks alot Mel. There are alot of these mines and quarries around the hills here all of which are now closed, infact this particular mine was the last 1 to close. There are danger signs warning people not to enter the building, indeed the building is locked up, and they also ask people not to move or remove stones, walk on machinery or generally disrupt the site because its been deisignated as a 'Special Site of Scientific Interest'. Most if not all people respect this but of course you cant account for the people that pay no heed. The fact that you can still walk around these sites is a tribute to the many tourists and locals that pass by here.

The 'suing' culture isnt as bad here as it seems to be in the States (although we are not far behind) and you really would have to be a wally to fall or hurt yourself in any way here, but if people insist on jumping up and down on a derilict building or old rusting iron, well what can I say

Thanks Charlie

Great work tom, always a pleasure to see your shots.

#8 is my favorite, i was surprised to find out it was done at a mere 23mm.

Thanks Gooshin. 23mm? I suppose I was practcally standing on the machinery when I took the shoots! I still havnt quite figured out a quick and easy way to view EXIF data without having to load up programs.

I noticed on Vista pictre viewer that it gives you all the info whereas my old xp version doesnt, bummer.

i am using firefox for internet browsing (easily usable on windows, you should try it)

they have a plugin for exif viewing, all you do is right click an image and hit properties.
