I hate those things. We have a flock that has found our feeder. They can empty it in no time. They are also immoral, just like the Cuckoo, and lay their eggs in someone else's nest.

I've always liked cowbirds and their subtle coloring
I love it when a cowbird fledgling shows up begging to be fed by whoever it was dumped on

in contravention of all norms magpies, cowbirds and English sparrows charm me a lot
though I can say starlings should exercise some restraint

Many thanks for the comments, all. Cowbird behavior is not unlike MANY other birds. I was surprised to learn that quite a few birds destroy the eggs of birds replacing them with their own eggs. Of course, they are the ones you'd expect -- starlings, grackles, etc. They behavior at the feeders are no different than others I've noted at my feeders. In fact, I find them better-behaved that starlings and grackles.
