Niagara Falls cable slide

It's been a while (at least a few years) since we visited Niagara Falls even though we are only about two-and-half hours drive away from it. I am quite impressed with a few entertainment features such as the "cable slide". Here are a few shots I took at the folks taking the ride. All shots are taken with the DA 18-135 lens. I bet it is a really 'cool' ride but I don't think I would have the courage to try it. I kinda like the dark clouds in the sky as a backdrop creating a dramatic effect.

Great captures- I especially like the last one, with the striking background.

Very cool.

Can you take a camera DSLR on that?

Nice photos, especially #3 with the ground to lend a sense of scale.

Minor rant: Niagara is a good example of how not to manage a beautiful place. They (a combination of the US and Canadian sides) spent $4M last year on additional spotlights shining on the falls. It looks like a Disney park at night.

Those lights do make for much better images though. In photography, it's all about light. I know of a number of great waterfalls with no development around them that nobody goes to. That's great for me, but, you have to ask, do you want people to come see the falls or don't you? It's a conundrum. The thing about the falls is, they are so big and so powerful, there's not much measly humans can do to reduce their effect. Whatever we do it remains a side show. Do I prefer lights to peering into the darkness trying to see what's there? And if there is going to be lights, they may as well be good lights.

When all those gamblers wander out of the Casino in the middle of the night blurry eyed and dazed, it's good they can see the falls, Maybe it will sober them up a bit.
