You can still find good musos ...

Melbourne's live music pubs are fighting a losing battle with poker machines. Here, singer-songwriter Madeleine defies the trend by belting out one of her numbers on a Saturday evening gig. K-1 with Sigma 35mm Art and FA77 Limited.

Nice - particularly the second one. I remember seeing Redgum live in a Melbourne pub about 35 years ago (ouch!) But I suppose the good part is that I actually CAN remember!

I may not have been in love with the first photo, but that face in the second? Yuppers, I am a gonner. No hope for me now. )

Very well done, especially the Black & White using the stage lighting. Not easy to do. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, PJ1 ... as they say, if you can remember the night, it couldn't have been that good!

Would have been a shame to have not recalled Redgum - they were a fine act. You can check out Shane Howard's solo work on Spotify, if you like - he went country and Irish.

Thanks, Tony.

There is a connection to photographing flowers. Modern LED stage lighting leaves terrible colour casts on the subjects, so it's common to shoot in B&W to get rid of that as a distraction. Red in particular can oversaturate the camera's sensor, so to preserve the details you see in the second pic, I'm shooting in Manual mode, underexposing by a full stop, and then in Lightroom lifting the exposure back up one stop.

I agree! What a marvelous photo - Framing and timing are perfect.
