A couple of Saturdays ago, while visiting our daughter and her husband in Connecticut, we drove to Lime Rock Park not to see a car race but to attend a British Car Gathering and the Annual Round Hill Highland Games. My main interest was in the car show, which turned out to be disappointingly small, but we ended up having a great time hearing bagpipe bands and a variety of folk singers that sounded sort of Scottish to me. We also had fun watching people throw stones over their heads, tossing burlap sacks full of . . . . something . . . . over a high bar, and flinging various objects across a field. Most interesting to me was the caber toss, in which one hoists and balances a tall, thick pole before tossing it in such way that the pole completely flips over.
Below are four pics of the caber toss; the shots are inexpertly done, because I found it difficult to shoot action pics and drink bear simultaneously.
I want to visit Lime Rock again, but to see, hear and smell what it's really built for - colorful cars moving at high speed and making lots of noise.
