Millstones: Artifacts of the 19th Century
Lens: A 20mm f/2.8 Camera: Pentax K-1 Photo Location: Peak District ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F8
Posted By: HarisF1, 07-11-2017, 03:09 PM

This image was taken in the picturesque Peak District area of England. The objects in the image are millstones, made in a nearby quarry. These were left here unused many many years ago and have assimilated into the beautiful natural landscape.

I used my A 20mm f/2.8 for this one, equipped with a CPL filter. The image was converted to mono in Lightroom where I adjusted levels and contrast. Thanks for looking!

A great B&W photograph - a composition that broods about the past. Very well done, in my view.

When I was a child, in the USA, "Pepperidge Farm Bakery" moved to my suburb of Chicago in the mid-1950's; in a tour of their bakery, I learned about using mill-stones, and that they still did it in the 20th century. I'm not sure whether they still do.

Wonderfully composed, and the B&W really makes this something special. I don't think this would have had the same sort of feeling as a color photo.
