Excellent shot. Falconry is a hobby I've always found very interesting. With the fine detail in this image, I assume it was shot with your "Gorgeous Lady"? It's quite an amazing lens and I envy you. Wish I had one!

a celebration of an ancient tradition and hunting technique

[ and I hope an opportunity for the participants to inform others of the importance and beauty of birds ]

That is a very nice shot (bokeh enhanced by some Scottish mizzle?). I like the focus of the falconer and the way the bird is "covering". I presume it has just got its reward. But at the risk of being pilloried for distracting from your shot, I cannot resist parodying Crocodile Dundee and saying "That's not a falcon. This is a falcon." Or, more correctly, a Golden Eagle/Steppe Eagle hybrid (and certainly the best bird I had on my arm that day!). It was still in training and hence on a tether.

Nice shot Kerrowdown and PJ1. I would've been like a kid in a candy store if I could get that close to birds of prey, they are by far the things I like to photograph the most.

Crocodile was comparing knifes

you are comparing an eagle to a falcon

close but no cigar

says a guy who is very envious of such an activity

It's something Lady Kerrowdown has a bit a penchant for.

Indeed it is, I'm having a bit of an affair with her at the moment... since the K1 arrived on the scene.

They are I believe readily available in the secondhand market.

That being the case, it may well pay you to find a small falconry centre, where you can get to meet and fly the birds "up close and personal".
