Water droplet refraction
Posted By: jacamar, 08-13-2017, 11:39 AM

From a macro workshop I attended yesterday.

K-3 and Tamron 90mm DI SP macro for the first one (droplets on spider's web outdoors), Pentax DA 1.4x teleconverter added for the others (studio shots)

I hate to be that guy, but:
  • This is refraction, not diffraction
  • Your first three clickable images are missing a "]" at the end ("[/url" should be "[/url]")
  • These images are absolutely wonderful

- I probably knew the difference once and am glad there are still some people that do, otherwise my lenses probably wouldn't work so well. I think only an admin can change a thread title so I guess this one is destined to an eternity of "duh!".
-Still getting used to flickr after bailing from photobucket. Will try to correct.
-The images produced by the professional photographer who ran the workshop are a lot more wonderful than mine. See them at Don Komarechka Photography, Barrie Ontario

I'd say you got something out of that workshop. All good but I like the first one in particular because it is an outdoors shot, with all the constraints that imposes.

Thank you. Actually the studio shots took a bit of effort as well - all hand held with off-camera flash, and it took a bit of contortion to get the right combination of in-focus droplets and graduation of colour in the background. But we all had a lot of fun - water all over the place!

Congratulations and thanks

Congratulations to the original poster of the excellent images, and thanks for adding the reference to the workshop leader. I suggest that people explore his superb images of snowflakes (online and in a book) and anything else he chooses to post.
