A bird for racinsince55
Posted By: Arpe, 02-20-2007, 03:24 AM

I was just sitting on the deck on my recent holiday and this sparrow hopped up onto the deck, trotted over to the dorr and went on tippy toes to look in the door, so I shot it, with my camera. It was probably only about 1.5m away.
No cropping and just a little levels. Sigma 55-200 DC.

Great shot.

Isn't it nice when they get that close.

I have to sit patiently in my backyard and let the birds get used to me before they get close enough to shoot. Even then, many of my shots need to be cropped.

The birds that I approach start flying away as soon as they see or hear a camera. Result - blurry pics and the reason for me not being a birder. Great shot!

Nice shot Arpe, well captured. I'm with Alvin tho, I prefer flowers, they don't move around so much!

One reason I dont do too many bird shots is that in NZ we don't have very colourful birds! They are mostly brown, dark green, or black. A bit annoying really. Yet just across the ditch in Australia they have vast quantities of birds of every colour! Oh well, we don't have snakes, killer spiders, crocs, scorpions etc.

Maybe it's just me. However, I'll tend to think that's a pretty good trade off.
